I use calipers even when they're not necessary.
For any automotive fab guys, they're super handy for ensuring control arm brackets and other similar items are placed symmetrically onto axle housings and frames.

I have to keep mine up from the kids - my littles think they are fun to play with and measuring things. They wore the battery out on my digitals in a few weeks.Quote:

Exactly. It's roughly .007" based on my findings that will be published in a peer review journal tomorrow. Well... that and my kids aren't allowed in that drawer. I have a second set in the garage.
Future Engineer: Cheap calipers will do for this and many other purposes. Even a ruler will help here. If you make even a vague guess at the size I can get o-rings of that size, each of the 3 sizes smaller and each of the three sizes larger for less than $1.00. Then I could probably mail them to you inside a letter which would cost very little.
