My FN303 set up for paintball...

So I went to Walmart and picked up my FN303. :dodgy:

First off I cut open the valve so I could put an insert inside it to get the velocity down. Now she is shooting at 297-299 with first strike rounds. :)

Then I removed the stock barrel made an adaptor ring and set it up to take Autococker threaded barrels. :) I have an Empire Superfreak installed so I can run a 0.69 insert for the first strike rounds, but could also bore size it down if I was running normal paintballs. :)

Quiet, and accurate now. :) and I have the versatility of using an part of the Super Freak barrel system (even the Apex 2 with normal paint if I wanted).

Only thing left is to get an angled sight rail and set it up with one of my cross bow scopes. :D

How was the barrel designed originally? And how is it shooting while shooting, with the HPA tank offset to the right?

hummmm ... the one we modified for mike was already cocker threaded ...

Mine had the right threads but the lead was wrong and you couldn't just screw a cocker barrel in and expect it to work properly. Hence the adaptor ring to step it off and allow any cocker barrel to be used and screwed in tightly.

Without the adapter ring you'd either have to cut the barrel lead (so it wouldn't be a stock autococker barrel) or wait until a mag was in and screw the barrel up against the magazine to make it tight. Neither was a good solution to me.

Planning on slinging this as a "special missions" shooter for events? It'd be a perfect sniper rifle for those scenario fields where we're all trying to shoot 200 feet with some semblance of accuracy (haha).

the thing is devastating on the paintball field. just ridiculous. it is SO much better then anything tiberius makes its not even funny. only the difficulty of acquiring an FN303 prevents anyone with half a brain from switching over. the magazine system is just a world ahead of tibs shitty stacked mags.

That was partly my plan. I was looking to put it under a rocket launcher and just keep it slung until needed. :)

I have been looking at making some custom guns using the same mags. It isn't as easy as I hoped, but we shall see what happens. :D

Simon: Could you explain how to lower the velocity of one of these to acceptable levels for paintball. If you don't want it public could we discuss it in email.

Its the same method as putting an efficiency insert into a classic mag.

Now to design Tommy gun clamshells for it instead of the plastic ones it has.

Be very careful how you cut the valve open. Don't take too much off otherwise you will kill the o-ring location and when you screw it back in the powertube tip will sit further back which means you need adjust the powertube to bolt o-ring seal etc.

Ill make sure you have a chance to get a set. They will be very limited run I beleive. Just not alot of demand for FN303 parts. Gonna be awhile. I gotta wade thru the Tommy gun blueprints. Then design the stuff I need. Then have then machined.

You could very easily print the shell set too. All of the functional stuff for the gun is held in a aluminium chassis :)

Thats true, But I think I want to eliminate the plastic feel. So I'm thinking aluminum. That way they can also be anodized.
The FN's chassis is what is spurring the project. That and the Drum feed.

Also planning on doing it in a way that we don't change anything so the original shells will fit without issue.

I minght be beating a horse around here but if youre designing a body kit for the 303 why not take it a step further and just design a shell that will take a regular automag valve and a 303 mag?

your market then moves out of just the 303 owners and anyone can put one together that has a spare valve laying around.

(also make the FPS adjustable without taking the gun apart)

Its a thought. A good one. But first comes modifiying the FN's we have. Its a personal project at this point.

It's not hard, you just need to be careful where you cut, and how much you cut...

I just dont know the size of the spacers you need to insert to get it down to the correct volume.

Lots. It was way more than I expected.

The chamber seems almost full... but the result has been amazing and is extremely consistent so I am not messing with anything :)

cna you post specs on what's in yours? I have one I'm converting for a friend. I was going to trial and error it until I could get it to chrono correctly but if I can get it on the first try that would be GREAT!

I just made spacers to fit the internal bore, with a hole down the middle, and then in 0.5, 0.25, and 0.1" lengths and then put them in until velocity was correct. That will depend on your barrel etc. too. I put in way more than I expected, so I would probably fill the chamber 75% and then work from there. It's been a long time since I did it so I don't recall the inside hole diameter :(

OK, I know this is an old thread but I am hoping to join the cool kids gang (my FN-303 arrives tomorrow) I am curious about the spacer for the barrel. Can you give me a little more information on this and why it is needed?

My timing sucks for playing with mine. It arrives tomorrow and I leave for the east coast on Friday to go buy a house. Flounder is leaving the desert and headed back to the beach! Ok not quite the beach but a state with some coast line at least.

The barrel is cocker threaded but it is different. It has a much longer set of cocker threads and not as much shank, so a regular cocker barrel threads and shank is a little longer then the fn303s stock barrel. You need a spacer for a cocker barrel so the shank does not go into the breach where the magazine is.

On my FN I use a unmodified hammerhead cocker barrel. I just made sure I have a thick oring on the barrel to be a spacer. Big thing as noted is to make sure the barrel does not interfere with the magazine area.
I did have to file the outer edges of the plastic body to get it to fit since the FN barrel was a smaller diameter.

Oh almost forgot. The original FN barrel is loctited to the gun. Its gonna take some heat & work to get it out.
