not surprised, almost everything up there is now electronic from the go petal on ...

    sad really.

rumor was they were gonna push a factory effort through the tutor united sports car series, and go for GT class wins in WEC. thats a start certainly, but a full factory LMP1 program would be awesome. not to mention great marketing for there ecoboost engines, which people are suspicious of there reliability, but the fuel economy is important in LMP1 racing too. id also like to see them set up a customer racing program with a FIA GT3 spec version of this car.

Well, there was some talk that you could only go turbo in some divisions if the engine was a V6 below 4ltrs. That might have some reason for that powerplant. A 3.5ltr at 600hp gives you room for a push up to 4ltrs for the race version, and even more power for that class. At about 170hp per liter at the moment, the potential for 700hp in a race version with no real change in the tech except bumping to 4ltrs is very exciting.

it would be pointless to put anything other than the ecoboost in an endurance race car. there is no marketing value from putting a race-trim 5.0 in this.

Racing is a business, no business case for putting the old tried and true in a race car. gotta market eco-boost, endurance racing is the perfect venue for it. reliability + fuel consumption. hell, even fords daytona prototypes (har har ...) use the ecoboost v6.

EDIT: corvette and SRT (viper), on the other hand, are both in the business of selling big engines, they do just fine with large displacement motors. balance of performance yo
