I started at a new firm last fall.
I?m the youngest employee by 10+ years, at 36.
Boss is 73. Next in command pushing 70. Rest are 50s+. 8 people in total.
I?m supposed to be learning the ropes to let the boss step back into semi retirement over the next few years...
It hasn?t really materialized at all yet.
But that?s ok, the office is laid back, everyone I work with is damn good and we collaborate. I make the best pay of my life drawing palatial homes and don?t have to deal with project management of shitty builders on top of it.

Now if only the boss would remember why he hired me and not act surprised that this ?millennial? knows things... lol

the MR2 is sold, and i have an offer on the 944.

the whole ND debacle is what it is, the alternative to the miata is a c6 z06 or grand sport.

or do the smart thing and buy a better truck for towing. hummmm.

Who makes the most accurate machines?

Example from work: if I wanted to cut a complex surface profile in copper in a single fixture on a 3 axis, accurate to .0003" (unilateral) (or better), whose machine should I buy?

That was really good fun to make Never done car-to-car paintball before and was amazed at how easy it was, even at range, over that really bumpy terrain, to get a shot on target.
Dear boy, I work at Planet Eclipse, don't you know..

good question. are your 3 axis' all moving in a coordinated move? or is one in feed hold and/or just running a straight feed? basically im asking how complex of a surface profile? also, is your 7 micron tolerance form error, or RA or PV? how large an area are planning to profile to this accuracy?

7 microns seems like a big tolerance, but the reality is, that most machines claiming those kinds of numbers can really only hold them for short times, in feed hold, and coordinated multi-axis moves are shot from the start.

using one of these on your machines is enlightening (and terrifying): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4T5KBDwr86k

we found machines claiming under 10 micron form error to have over 100 micron form error when profiling. each axis might be that good, but when coordinating, they are shit.

The profile is a high-order polynomial profile, rotated about an axis so the result is cylindrically symmetric. Feature is roughly 3.5" in diameter. Surface finish needs to be N5 or better.

We run it OK on our machines but I don't think we've ever nailed the profile.
