Living Legends 8 bans First Strike Rounds

Posted by Viper from his Facebook page:

It is with sincere regret and apology that I make the following post.

Larry Cossio just contacted me and informed me that due to the insurance requirements of his company, Cossio Insurance Agency, who provides liability coverage for the event, FIRST STRIKE ROUNDS ARE PROHIBITED.

I sincerely apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience. I was only informed about this about five minutes ago.

I encourage anyone with comments or complaints to pass them on to the insurance company. I'm afraid there is nothing that we can do about it at this point.

Any idea why the insurance would care?

How is it more likely to cause an injury than a regular ball?

The shells are undeniably less frangible/more prone to cause laceration, and probably more important they mantain higher velocities further from the shooter.

Between the laceration risk of the fins and the higher maintained velocity, eye injuries are probably substantially worse when they happen.

Well I mean that's why people like them, isn't it? They're better projectiles, which means they maintain a higher velocity further out which means increased range.

Apparently first strike rounds do not meet the ASTM standard of what a paintball is.

    Apex2 on a Stella.

    Nuff said.

There was a big hullabaloo about First Strikes in the UK a few months back - basically no insurer would cover someone getting hit by a first strike. Something about most of it being a non-frangible round and therefore putting markers into the firearms category.

While FSR's are nice n'all, very fun to play with and good for scaring the crap out of people long-range. I get round using them by going closer to whoever i'm shooting at.
