Josh - What is the conclusion you are drawing from the studies and how does it relate to the voter ID interviews you refer to?
Not really drawing a conclusion - or pointing fingers. It related more to the background where one side of this forums arguments start from "All the other people are racist" and continue that point ad nauseam. It is just one study - that it is counter to the position some on here take is interesting.

The voter ID thing is here:

    .................

Telling that you invoke a term disparaging to women as an insult though.
    his·tri·on·ic
    /*histr**änik/Submit
    noun
    plural noun: histrionics
    1.
exaggerated dramatic behavior designed to attract attention.
"discussions around the issue have been based as much in histrionics as in history"
    synonyms: dramatics, theatrics, tantrums; More
    2.
    ARCHAIC
    an actor.
Not a single thing about a woman in there. I am generally confused about your response. Are you insulted you are not a woman? Am I assuming your gender?

You state the R's are racists. So does Gordon. Emphatically so - hence my correct, non sexist use of the the word histrionics.

Genuinely confused by what you're surprised about here, this is neither new nor surprising.
Lets let the study author reply to this:

*It was kind of an unpleasant surprise to see this subtle but persistent effect,* Dupree says. *Even if it*s ultimately well-intentioned, it could be seen as patronizing.*
So it would be new and surprising, according to your and Gordon's consistent responses. Think about it maybe for a bit.....

Oh wait, you doubled down with:
The GoP is capital R Racist, and they know a significant portion of their base will revolt if they try to address the racial disparities in our society.
(not going to waste time looking up a face palm gif to add here.)
    ______________________________________

Maybe I should have gotten a few facepalm gifs bookmarked.

I think the "Birther" issue is a pretty good metric of what portion of the GoP is capital R Racist. 41% of Republicans refused to acknowledge Obama was born in the US when he left office.
    It isn't.

And - well, if this is what you deeply believe, then that study I linked to would be a surprise. So, which is it? Did you not read it again Steve?

I consider myself a libertarian. Part that that comes from strong positions on individualism, and individual liberty. That drives me to see people for who they are as individuals, and not to be part of any group. Even if a group has a certain position they statistically hold, the individual can and will be unique. If you strongly hold individualism up high, you tend to reject aberrant constructs like Inter-sectionalism.

    You seem to embrace it.

I wouldn't call the DNC racist. I wouldn't call the GOP racist. Some of each group are, and there will always be some, but that doesn't make the group racist.

Most people, both sides of the aisle, abhor any sort racism. That the truth. Trying to smear the 'other' side as racist all of the time is really just there to justify your dislike, your tribalism.

It is not about them. But about you. About your need to make the other side bad.

You and Gordon are speaking very firmly about your need to be seen a certain way. We get it. We see your signalling for what it is. Your smears, your slurs.

But it doesn't speak for the GOP. It just speaks about you.

With exaggerated dramatic behavior designed to attract attention.

    Histrionics.

If we are going to have a debate, let's stick to studies and data rather than one random guy walking around a city with a camera to make an edited movie. That's worthless. Here's an article on voter id law studies (https://fivethirtyeight.com/features...voter-id-laws/). Are the affects small? Yes. They disproportionately affect minority voters though. I can also pull the 4th Cir. findings on the North Carolina laws if you'd like too. I think the term was "surgical precision" for how the laws impacted minorities.

    No, the video holds.

In the video a certain group 'A' expects another group 'B' to be unable to do something, talks down about them.
In the study the same group 'A' talks down to the same group 'B' in both presidential addresses and also in letter written to them. That results in 3 matters where group A acted in concert with regards to group B, and the video agrees. I imagine more can be found that support this.

That's all. It is interesting when you see all three together. And I also stated that is not proof of anything. Just a bit surprising considering the tone of this forum. I have no real interest in going over minutia in voter ID laws. My point is on how Group A views Group B, especially when Group A keeps on saying Group C is acting that way - and this is not being born out from this study or from the video.

acknowledging that racism exists is not in and of itself racist. lol

nope, like N korea they are blowing smoke up trump's ass if they are offering anything better than what we had before.

our opposition isn't stupid, they know that jerking trump off in person allows them later to do whatever they want later.

Yes, my position was that China would be minorly conciliatory and Trump would declare victory.

Josh, if you bothered to do a little digging you would find that histrionic is derived from the Greek word for womb, and has historically been used as a term of derision towards women.

Histrionic Personality Disorder is one of the most ambiguous diagnostic categories in psychiatry. Hysteria is a classical term that includes a wide variety of psychopathological states. Ancient Egyptians and Greeks blamed a displaced womb, for many women?s afflictions.
    ...
The word hysteria derived from the Greek term ?hystera,? meaning the womb or uterus. It has been used since ancient times and appears in texts of the Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. Since then, the meanings of hysteria have mirrored the preoccupations of the societies at each time.

Really went on a personal attack at the end there though.

Pretty clear you're just cherry picking reality to fit your worldview at this point.

And I have to say you keep insisting you're not a trump supporter but you sure use all the lingo and talking points of one.

Trump supporters?all the way from the administration on down to the legions of right-wing bloggers?cannot seem to stop themselves from diagnosing the left with various forms of mental illness, particularly ?hysteria.? The hundreds of thousands of people who took to the streets for the Women?s March in support of women?s rights or who joined the strike on March 8 for the #DayWithoutAWoman were (and will be) described as ?rabid feminists? and ?crazies? who flew into ?hysterics and tantrums? (when they weren?t being called ?paid protesters?). The public figures who criticized Trump?s travel ban, as well as the demonstrators who gathered at airports, were mocked as sensitive ?snowflakes? acting out some kind of media-induced ?hysteria.? And when Democratic leaders stalled on a series of cabinet votes, the Trump administration said they were ?a bunch of crybabies? who ?cry and scream? over everything because their hysteria knows ?no gradation.?
