Anybody know anything about these. The magnetic coil will not engage and turn on. Does that mean I need to replace it or is it something that can be repaired?
I can manually close it and the compressor motor will turn on.

Generally means a replacement. If the coil is dead then the most likely point is somewhere in the coil of wire that makes the solenoid - and that can be in up to hundreds of feet of wire. The only other real point is at the contacts or solder points for the wire to the coil. If in the coil, replace. At the contact points it could be easy, depending on the connection type, and you should be able to see if those points are bad. They may be, and an easy clean up could get you right again. If it is in the coil - not so much. Trade in the copper for a down on the new coil?
