i would not think that a sail boat could get up on a foil.
Just awesome to watch - a 7 ton boat on one little foil:

I had heard of them doing that before, but a quick google showed me something:

20 years ago... wow.The Trifoiler was discontinued in 2005
The TriFoiler is a hydrofoil trimaran sailboat that began as a small model back in 1981. The project culminated with production of the Hobie TriFoiler, manufactured in 1995 by the Hobie Cat Company in Oceanside, California.
The idea began with the desire to break the world speed record for sailboats. In the process, Dan and Greg Ketterman built 5 prototypes (TF20, TF2, TF3 Longshot I and II) and 4 production prototypes (Avocet 1, 2 & 3, TFP). The Class A world speed record was broken by “Longshot”, owned and sailed by Russell Long. Long set the Class A record of 43.55 knots on a 500 meter course in Tarrifa Spain in 1993. The record still stands today and can be confirmed at http://www.speedsailing.com/Background_records.htm.
I can see my office in the background!
Not a bad view! I just get the Gulf of Mexico:

(on the far left)
my office is the Atlantic ocean, or i should say, OVER the Atlantic ocean...
Parking lot ... assuming by office you mean where my computer is.
showed my GF this - she's the president of our university's sailing club - she thought it was pretty neat. would be such a smooth ride, and once it got up on the foil, go SO MUCH faster...
Coit Tower, Alcatraz, North Beach, and the bay off the Marina. I've got to see all the Americas Cup boats running around down there, including when the Oracle boat flipped.

Check out the Moth foilers for something a little closer to affordable to the average joe sailor... Though they're still over 10k...
I can't wait to get my Hobie 16 in the water this year...
I grew up sailing and often miss it.
That is one stunning piece of engineering and impressive to watch.
Bronc, that's quite an office view!
